John G. DeLancett has been a member of the Florida Bar since November, 1971. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida (B.A. 1968) and his law degree from the University of Florida, College of Law (J.D. 1971, with honors). He is a member of Omicron Delta kappa and Phi Alpha Delta. At the University of Florida Law School, he was a member of the Board of Editors, University of Florida Law Review.
Mr. DeLancett practices in the areas of business litigation and real estate litigation, with an emphasis in civil and criminal tax litigation, and administrative law. He is a former contract trial counsel for the Department of Professional Regulation (1981-1983), representing several of the Boards, particularly the Florida Real Estate Commission, in disciplinary proceedings. Since that time, he has represented licensees before FREC.
He is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Middle and Northern Districts of Florida, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Tax Court, The Internal Revenue Service, and all Florida Courts. He is a Court Certified Arbitrator and Mediator for the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida.
His professional activities include the Orange County Bar Association (past chairman of the Law and Education Committee, past chairman of the Tax section; past vice-chairman of the Speakers Bureau), The Florida Bar (Trial Lawyers Section, Tax Law Section, Criminal Law Section), The American Bar Association (Tax Section, Litigation Section), the Federal Bar Association (president, Orlando Chapter, 1986-1987 and 1987-1988) and the American Association for Justice and the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel. He is a member of the American Bar Association Tax Committee on Civil and Criminal penalties. He is also a past chairman of the Board of Directors of Central Florida Tax Round table (Chairman 1992 and 1994); Past Chairman of the Board of Directors, Downtown Branch of the YMCA.
He has taught as an adjunct instructor in the Legal Studies Program at the University of Central Florida and has served as a speaker on several topics relating to real estate trust funds, civil and criminal tax litigation, divorce taxation, and innocent spouse issues to several groups over the years.
